My Client-First Philosophy

My name is Justin Padgett, owner and broker of Black Dog Real Estate, Inc. I graduated from Texas State University in Biology and Chemistry in the fall of 1999. Originally from Lubbock, Texas, I decided to pursue my academic career in the Hill Country, and upon graduation, I could not leave this beautiful place. In 2009, after three years in real estate, I founded Black Dog Real Estate, Inc., named in honor of a very special black dog, Lady, whom I rescued from the shelter here in San Marcos. Ironically, she rescued me during a very trying time in my life! I made a decision after starting my brokerage firm that I would contribute a portion of EVERY single transaction to a local business, PALS (Prevent a Litter of Central Texas). This organization specializes in providing animals with good shelters and supporting low income families who cannot afford to get their pets spayed and neutered. What a win-win concept!

There are many qualities and skills that go into being an excellent real estate professional – integrity, in-depth community and market knowledge, marketing savvy, effective negotiation skills and a high-quality professional network, all of which are hallmarks of how I work.

That said, in my experience as a San Marcos and Central Texas real estate professional, I’ve also found that providing the very best service is essentially about putting my clients first. This means keeping myself accessible, being a good listener as well as a good communicator, and responding quickly to your needs.

This “client first” philosophy has always been my approach, and it requires me to continually improve my skills and ways of doing business. In addition, I’ve found that the latest technologies are enabling me to do everything I’ve always done, only much more quickly and efficiently. They’ve also helped me to extend the range of services I provide to my clients.

I’ve joined Justin Padgett’s team because I’ve known many real estate agents over the years, but Justin stands out as a broker who is knowledgeable, principled, and dedicated to serving others.  This is also demonstrated by his leadership in promoting private property rights in our community and our state.

Experience:

I was first licensed as a real estate agent in CA in the 1990’s, where I became intrigued by the complexities of investing in and developing rural land.  Since then, I’ve had over twenty years of experience in real estate markets in three states, mainly buying and selling personal properties for investment purposes.

I am currently licensed in TX, where my intention is to serve seller clients of ranch properties through implementing unique concepts in marketing.  In recent years, I’ve enjoyed researching price dislocations between regions and states, then purchasing property in anticipation of market rises. Thus, I’m interested in assisting buyers in using this proven approach to investing.

My husband, Don (CPA, MBA), recently retired from his work as an institutional money manager, and now works with me to serve client needs. He brings an unusual mix of business acumen, photography skills and marketing aptitude to the table. His advice and assistance are often invaluable in closing a real estate transaction. (Don has chosen not to seek licensing as a real estate agent.)

Although I’ve specialized in recent years in land purchases and sales, I’m also ready to serve the traditional needs of buyers and sellers in purchasing and selling their homes. It’s a great privilege to participate in achieving the goals of clients in the real estate market.

Background:

My husband, Don, and I grew up and married near Vancouver, Canada, then moved to California, where we had our three daughters after emigrating. I graduated summa cum laude, Phi Kappa Phi, with a B.A. in Communications from CA State University, Sacramento. In 2005, our family moved to the Texas Hill Country, where we’ve enjoyed our freedom on unrestricted acreage. Besides my real estate work, I enjoy family and church activities, biking, hiking, hunting, and wildlife management work.
